Bring your own supplies, which should include cutting mat, rotary cutter, sewing machine, etc. You may bring a lunch & beverage. We are not able to facilitate any pot lucks. Our irons and ironing boards will be available for your use. The fee will be $10 per person. Staff will not be available for any assistance; you will be working on your own.
We had a great time at our Shop Hop in April. And here's the lucky winner of our fabulous shop basket, Tracey Meeker:
We are offering our Finish Your Project class every Monday from 1:00pm-5:00pm. This is a period of time where either Karol or Betty will spend time in the classroom to help you with individual questions or give assistance with your class projects. This is a great way to spend time with Betty or Karol and to get help one-on-one to meet your specific needs. The fee for this service is $10 per session unless you are enrolled in one of their classes. Then the fee is $5 for assistance with that class project. This is a great way to get individual help to get that project finished so you can do another!. Give us a call at 435-2103 to get on the schedule. Enrollment is limited.
Hand Appliqué Club Meets on the 4th Monday every other month, from 5:00pm-7:30pm. Open to anyone interested in hand appliqué. Everyone will work on his or her own project. Light refreshments will be served. Club will meet in February, April, June, August, October, and December. Yearly fee: $35.
Quilt Sitters Circle Meets on the 4th Thursday every other month, from 6pm-8pm. Open only to those who have completed an It's Ok To Sit On My Quilt class. Instruction on various projects will be covered. Circle will meet in January, March, May, July, September, and December. Yearly fee: $35. This club is closed to new members.
Have you ever considered having your quilt judged? This is a great way to get advice on how well you are constructing your quilts, and this advice is usually given for just a nominal entry fee. Here are some of the things that judges look for: Creativity, Use of Color, Design Elements (such as sashes, borders, uniformity of quilting, etc.) and Workmanship, which is a major part of the judge's advice. Make sure the borders are on straight; bindings are neat and points are sharp; seam lines should meet, and points on blocks should not be cut off. Don't be afraid to enter your quilt or wall hanging. Start with your local Guild or city/state fairs. You will be surprised at how well you are doing! Good luck!
As you know, our customers do a lot of traveling. Send us your pictures with our Green Bag when you are traveling and we will put it in our newsletter or on our web site. It is fun to see where people travel.
About batiks:
Batiks are beautiful fabrics that are carefully manufactured. In spite of the multiple washings that takes place during the manufacturing, there is a tendency for Batiks to release their dye and this is commonly known as “dye bleeding”. Many factors do contribute to this happening. One such factor is the hardness of the water, of which we often have little control.
Therefore, please wash your batiks before using due to the tendency of the fabric to release dye when washed. If the fabric continues to bleed after washing, consider using Ratayne or Synthrapol which are dye color fixatives. Synthrapol is a soap that washes the dye out. Ratayne will actually stop the dye from bleeding. Be sure to wear gloves when using these products as they can be an irritant to the skin.
Enjoy the beauty of batik fabrics.
Need a temporary portable ironing surface? Ask your quilt shop for an empty paper bolt that fabric is rolled on. Wrap a dishtowel, duck fabric, or some smooth fabric around it and it makes a great lightweight, portable ironing surface for small projects.
Did you know that if you use a fabric softener when pre-washing your fabrics for fusible web projects, that the agents in the softener often prevent the fusible web from correctly adhering to your fabric?
To keep your rotary blade rolling smoothly, take it apart and clean the lint from behind the blade and add a drop of sewing machine oil. It is also known to length the time the blade lasts; unless, of course, you run over a pin! Be sure you put it back together correctly!
Strip Club meets every other month on the second Wednesday of the month from 10am-2pm. It will meet in January, March, May, July, September, and November. The cost is $40 for each Club meeting.
The Strip Club requires each person to purchase a bundle of 2½” fabric strips from our shop to enroll. The shop provides you with a free pattern and free instruction. You only purchase the fabric in the form of a bundle of strips. These strips are available on the day the Club meets; or, if you are unable to attend, they will be held for you to pick up any time after the meeting. The patterns usually call for an accent and a background in addition to the strips we provide. Those are purchased before the class because there is usually some pre-cutting needed.
The Strip Club is considered a Club and not a Class. In appreciation of your support of our Strip Club, if you decide to purchase the backing for the quilt, you will be given a 20% discount on the regularly priced fabric.
At each club meeting, there will be a drawing for someone to win a free class for the next Strip Club. Also, if you attend 4 Strip Club meetings during the year and bring your completed quilt top for Show and Tell, your name will be put into a drawing in December to have your quilt QUILTED FREE! What fun! Do you feel lucky?
We hope you will enjoy attending our Strip Club.
